STITCHES REMOVED

....today.

I have always been able to tolerate a lot of pain but this ordeal with my hand has been the pits! Today was no exception. I felt like such a wimp today when the nurse was removing the 8 stitches in my hand. The pain was excruciating!

As the tears rolled down my cheeks I apologized to the nurse for being a baby and she said, "I was in the operating room and knowing what was done I can really understand why you have the pain."

I was so happy to get the ordeal over. Now I have a brace that I will wear for 4-6 weeks. I can move my fingers now so hopefully I will be able to do some art in a few days.

Tonight I have taken a pain pill and am going to settle down and read a book or catch up on some magazines.

Thanks for all the emails with kind thoughts. I really appreciate hearing from you.

Yak, your post really reminded my of my own operations where stitches were to be removed. Sometimes I think this is worse than the actual operation, because on that occasion you are usually either not conscious or at least anaesthesized.
My best wishes again for a speedy recovery! And even if you really really very much wish to make art - take care! Don't jeopardize the healing process.

Hi Marylin,
When I noticed the info on your injury and having the stitches removed, it reminded me of breaking my wrist due to slipping on the ice. This was 6 weeks before I was scheduled to go to Bead Embellishment in Houston. I did go and take the class, although it wasn't easy sewing beads using my right hand which I ordinarily use. The really interesting thing was that because I had several fractures in a 3 year time period, prescribed tests showed that I had osteoporosis and the bones of an 80 year old woman and I was only 58. So I've been on Fosamax and am in great shape and the bones are stronger and healthier. I never would have been aware of this if I hadn't slipped on the ice (in front of my house).
Cheers,
